The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) requires new bankruptcy debtors to receive credit counseling from an approved credit counseling agency before the bankruptcy filing. The counseling should include an evaluation of your personal financial situation, a discussion of alternatives to bankruptcy, and a personal budget plan. e. Debtor Education Courses

The BAPCPA also requires new debtors to complete a debtor education course after filing for bankruptcy. Debtor education course includes information on developing a budget, managing money, using credit wisely, and other resources.
